Fresh from his medal winning performance and comeback success at what has been deemed “the best ever” Commonwealth Games, gymnastics star Louis Smith paid another visit to Glasgow to make a very special announcement – he’s an official ambassador for the 2015 World Gymnastics Championships!
Louis is already looking forward to 2015; “Glasgow put on such a good show for the Games this summer – I’m sure they will do the same for the Championships next year.
“It was fantastic to be back competing and the SSE Hydro proved itself to be a great competition venue. The Championships attract the top gymnasts from across the world and, as a qualifying event for the 2016 Olympic Games, every athlete will be on their top form.”
Louis stopped by Glasgow’s Merchant Square – which will be transformed into a Fan Zone for the event – to demonstrate his pommel skills and find out what to expect at the Square next year. Just a few of the Fan Zone highlights will include a big screen for watching the event, ‘Come and Try’ activities, athlete appearances, demonstrations, an official merchandise shop and the Championships’ Closing Party.
“It will be great to have a space like this where people can come to engage with the Championships and the sport further,” said Louis. “Things like this really show how gymnastics is growing in popularity.”
We’re excited to have Louis on board as our ambassador and can’t wait to have him back in Glasgow. Find out Louis’ answers to questions submitted by fans for a special Q&A over on YouTube and see some photos from our ticket launch on Flickr.
