Current British All- Around Champion, gymnast Amy Tinkler, was surprised with a birthday gift following her bronze medal winning performance at the Women’s Team Finals of the 2015 FIG World Gymnastics Championships in Glasgow tonight.
As she stepped off the podium with her newly presented bronze medal, Amy the youngest member of Team GB, was delighted to receive flowers and balloons from the event organisers, to celebrate her sixteenth birthday.
After a strong performance during the team and individual qualification stages Amy, from Durham, was ranked seventh overall from the twenty-four gymnasts vying for a Championship title and qualified for the Individual All-Around final. So celebrating will have to wait, as she prepares to take on reigning World Champion, USA’s Simone Biles, on Thursday.
On what it was like to win a World bronze medal she said: "It’s incredible, I am just totally speechless at the minute. We have all worked so hard the past five weeks and months at Lilleshall and I am just so proud of everyone.
"It is definitely the perfect birthday present, one I will never forget".
Amy is the second girl in the GB team to celebrate a birthday this week, as teammate Claudia Frangapane turned 18 on Saturday. So for both girls medal success at the World Championships is the icing on the birthday cake.
